Caleb Guenther High School Social Studies Teacher
Philosophy of Teaching
As a teacher, I strive to create a safe and inclusive place of learning for all students, regardless of background or ability. I try to create lessons that can be tailored to meet students at their unique abilities while encouraging them to grow. My ultimate goal is a constructivist classroom in which students begin to facilitate their own learning through exploration and getting hands-on. I also set a high standard and expect every student to put in their best effort and engage with the readings and activities I provide. In the context of Social Studies, this means creating lessons that put students in the role of the Historian rather than a passive observer of history. With each lesson, I hope to train students in the kinds of historical analysis that engage their critical thinking and develop an analytical outlook useful in an age clouded by the internet. I further hope my students will take what they learn into their community and everyday lives. Overall I hope my lessons will create capable citizens who have the tools to investigate and understand their place in both history and the present for the rest of their lives.
